Extacy Chapter II

The sound of the doorbell brought them both to their senses. Kyle quickly removed Brian’s finger from his mouth muttering something about cold water making it worse.
“Oh, yeah,” was all I could manage to say.
The doorbell rang once more drawing both teenagers’ attention.
“I guess I should get that.”
“I’ll come with,” Kyle stated grabbing his damp shirt and tossing it back on.
I glanced back at Kyle and shrugged as I reached for the door.
I slowly glanced up to meet Kyle’s steely grey eyes looking nervously at me. As my vision began to focus I could make out Sarah standing behind Kyle with her hands on her hips wearing a half frown staring down at me.
“Sorry!” she exclaimed seeing that I was now conscious. “Your truck was here and no one answered the door…” she trailed off staring at the floor.
Kyle extended his arm helping me up. I was going over what had just occurred in the kitchen in my head, forgetting that I was still holding onto Kyle’s hand.
“You okay?” Kyle asked gingerly while easing his hand out of mine. His expression unreadable, or I simply couldn’t focus on anything other than his cute bottom lip as he nervously bit it.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I motioned them away with one hand while touching the back of my head with the other. “Gonna have a killer headache tomorrow though,” I said while wincing after applying to much pressure.
“Anyway, I was just coming over to make sure your both coming too my party Thursday,” Sarah shot both boys an expecting look. Of course they would both be going. Missing Sarah’s 20th birthday would result in more hurt to them, rather than her in the long run. Sarah was the sweetest person you could meet; as long as she got her way.
My mind wasn’t really focused on the upcoming party, however. Does this mean anything I thought to himself. Kyle had flat out confronted me, although he didn’t seem mad. Thinking back, he had been smiling. He sucked my thumb when I burnt it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. The last thought being more of a question than a statement.
“Damn,” I muttered out loud lost in the confusion that was taking place in my head.
“Head still hurting?” Sarah and Kyle both asked, then glanced at one another.
“Jinx, you owe me a soda,” Kyle declared with a half grin plastered on his face.
Ignoring it for the time being seems to be my only option, or at least the easiest.
“What’s that smell?” Sarah asked sniffing the air. I thought for a second, but was interrupted before I had a chance.
“Oh shit!” Kyle blurted out as he ran past me too the kitchen where smoke was bellowing out.
“Pancakes!” was all that came out of my mouth as I jumped up and headed too the kitchen. There was a sudden sizzle, followed by flowing water as Kyle tossed the flaming skillet into the sink.
“I can’t leave you guys alone at all can I?” Sarah said with a laugh as she fanned away the smoke.
“Guess pancakes are a no-go,” Kyle said with a frown. “Sarah, do you wanna go out and get some breakfast with us?” he continued.
“Already ate,” she replied patting her stomach. “I gotta go check something out anyway…” her cheeks flushed slightly pink “For my party next week.”

I didn’t catch on as fast as Kyle did.
“A date eh?” Kyle said with a big grin.
“Not sure,” she stated with a downcast look. “His name is Daniel, hes really cute…” she flushed a darker shade of pink this time.
“And?” Kyle asked his interest peaked.
“And, nothing,” this time looking up at us. “He works at that new book shop in town, the one with a café.” this time she was crimson. “I went last Friday to get lunch between classes,” she smiled “He was cute, so I went back Saturday to see if he was there…”
“Stalker!” Kyle exclaimed laughing. I elbowed him in the side noticing Sarah’s smile had vanished.
“Anyway,” she continued “He already had the same thing I ordered the day before, and the book I had been reading set aside,” she was blushing yet again “He said it was on the house, and…” she paused “His number was written in the front of the book.”
“Have you seen him since,” Kyle asked.
“No, but we’ve talked on the phone,” she smiled “a lot.”
“When do we get to meet him?” Sarah doesn’t usually go into such detail when telling us of her newest flavor of the month.
“Hopefully at the party,” her smile fading “His aunt is really sick, and he might be flying out to spend a few weeks with her.”
“Awe, that sucks,” I stated “Give him our regards.”

Kyle’s stomach decided to make itself known. Mine seemed to be telling me the same, albeit quieter.
“So, how about that breakfast?” Kyle said laying a hand on my shoulder. This is something he does all the time, but I suddenly felt my heart racing, and my palms beginning to sweat. He seemed to notice my sudden tenseness, because he removed his hand.
“Well, I’m heading over too meet Daniel, we’re going to see a movie, then I have a late class,” Kyle’s stomach growled again “So I’ll get out of here, and let you two go eat.”
“Lemme just grab my keys and we’ll get out of here,” I hollered over my shoulder as I made my way too my room. Once alone though, my head went into overtime. We’ll be alone all day, what do I do, or say for that matter. I could just tell him it happened, we’ve been friends for years. My thoughts trailed off as I heard Kyle’s voice from the door.
“Dude, hurry up, I’m starving,” Kyle laughed.

If he asks I’ll just tell him. He didn’t seem to care earlier, he even sucked my finger. I can do this, I stated into the mirror hanging on the wall beside my door.
“Got em, coming!” I yelled down the stairs as I closed my door, and made my way down the stairs.
“Took you long enough,” Kyle grumbled good naturedly as we got into my truck.
“So, where to?” I asked while turning the ignition. “We could get pancakes somewhere else” I added.
“Yeah, wanna head over too the Waffle King by Sarah’s place?” Kyle suggested while sifting through my CD case.

Sarah lives in a small apartment complex in town. Her parents are loaded, and hate each other. Her dad is into real estate, and her mom is an Orthodontist. She once told us “I may hate them, but I’m not retarded,” as she deposited her monthly 15,000$ check into the bank, keeping out enough for food and gas. She moved out on her 18th birthday. Her parents constant fighting grew to be to much for her.
Since her parents couldn’t legally stop her, they opted for giving her a `modest` allowance.
“Brian…” Kyle said without looking up from the open CD case in front of him. My heart suddenly began racing. “Your finger,” he paused, “and head still hurting,” he asked with a chuckle. I relaxed slightly.
“Nah, its fine now,” I had to think for a second, I didn’t want to draw out a conversation about my finger in fear of where the conversation might go, “Well, my finger is, but my heard hurts like hell,” I laughed hoping to sway the conversation.
“We’re here,” Kyle stated as we turned onto the street about 50 yards from the Waffle King.
“I had just unfastened my belt, and reached for my door when Kyle grabbed my shoulder.
“Wait,” he said with a little concern in his voice, “No, turn that way,” he grabbed my chin and turned my face away from him. I was starting to get nervous again, not sure what he was doing. “Don’t move,” he said, then gently spread my hair apart where I had hit my head earlier. Suddenly realizing what his intentions where, I was able to relax slightly. “Hmm,” he mumbled as he slightly pulled his hands away from each other, causing me to wince. “There’s a slight gash Brian,” he gently patted my hair back into place, “You might need to go too the doctor, could have a concussion.” He’s so cute when he looks all serious.

“Brian?” Kyle asked, jogging me back to my senses, “Lets go eat, then run over too the doctors.”
“Sure,” I mumbled, still thinking about how cute he looked all serious, and concerned.
Our waitress was an attractive red head, with a pleasant smile, and one of those happy-go-lucky personalities, she might have been a few years older than us.
“What can I get you handsome young men today?” she asked before eliciting a cute hiccup, “Excuse me,” she exclaimed, her face flushing pink.
“I’ll have two blueberry pancakes, and he’ll have two chocolate chip,” Kyle answered nodding his head toward me.
“Anything to drink?” she asked before frowning as she hiccupped again. “Damn,” she muttered quietly, but we both heard her. Kyle chuckled, and she noticed. “Sorry,” she sighed, “Been hiccupping all morning, wont go away.”

Kyle gave her an interesting look, before continuing with our order. “We’ll have two small Coffees, black, and two medium Iced Teas.”
The waitress once again flashed us that pleasant smile before leaving our table.
“It’ll be ready in a few minutes,” she said as she walked back too the counter.
“She’s cute,” Kyle stated simply. You would think I would be use to it by name, but I always loath when Kyle notices a girl. I could however see where he was coming from, I may be gay, but I’m not blind. This one simple comment had my mind racing again, he had kissed me on the cheek over vacation, he had taken his shirt off when I spilled a little water on it, and gently sucked my finger when I burnt it. We’re best friends, and we often goof off, but this was different, it was like he wanted to flirt, or was attempting to. I must have had a deep expression, because soon Kyle’s voice butted into my thoughts.
“Dude, foods here,” he said looking at me slightly perplexed, “You okay?” he asked raising an eyebrow.
“I’m fine I said looking down at our food, then back up to the waitress, who returned a pleasant smile.
“If you two need anything else just let me know.” with that she was moving onto another group of customers.
“You seemed a little out of it,” Kyle stated after the waitress walked off. “You should really see a doctor after we eat, and I’m driving.” he stated with a serious look on his face. I didn’t feel like explaining what was going through my head, so I just nodded.
“Hey!” I said finally noticing our food. “What if I had wanted blueberry,” I moaned with my best puppy face.
“You dork,” he said with a smile, before trading one of my chocolate chip pancakes for one of his blueberry. “I got two of each for a reason dummy.”
“Oh,” I mumbled trying not to smile. “I knew that,” I mumbled under my breath.”
“Sure ya did,” Kyle said passing me the syrup with a smile. His smiles are so infectious, add his deep grey eyes and sandy blonde hair, and your hooked.

The waitress checked our table every 3 or 4 minutes asking if there was anything else we needed which was fine since she was always very pleasant. On one of her stops she was smiling more than usual, when I noticed I paused to look at her for a moment.
“Umm,” she blushed slightly, than scratched at her mouth before clearing her throat. Kyle looked up at her, then to me, then smiled and grabbed a napkin from the holder. He leaned across the table and wiped the side of my mouth.
“Syrup you goof ball,” he said with a smile, before returning to his former position.
“The waitress’s usual cute smile was replaced with one of curiosity as her gaze drifted from me, to Kyle, then back to me again.
“Well, if you two need anything you know where to find me,” she glanced at us both again, then walked back too the counter, occasionally glancing back at us with the same curious smile.
“You about done?” Kyle asked a few minutes later. His plate nearly empty and half a pancake left on mine.
“Yeah,” I mumbled pushing my plate away, and finishing the last few sips of my Iced Tea.
Kyle held up his hand and motioned for the waitress. As she approached our table I saw Kyle fumbling for his wallet.

“Let me get this one,” I told Kyle as the waitress began piling up our plates. I reached into my back pocket, nothing there. “Hmm,” I mumbled as I checked various other pockets. Kyle took notice as I continued to try and locate my wallet.
“See what I have to put up with?” he smiled at the waitress as he took out his wallet. “First date and hes already trying to get out of the bill,” he joked. She had an odd expression as she looked from him, to me, then back again.
“Sorry,” I groaned, “Guess I left it at home when we left,” I sighed.
“Don’t worry about it,” Kyle said a he handed the waitress the money, and a reasonable tip. “Besides, between the fire, you on the ground, and my wet shirt, we didn’t exactly leave casually,” he chuckled “And, I was starving,” he laughed.
“The waitress’s eyes widened slightly, then suddenly she had that pleasant smile again.
“Hope you two enjoyed your date,” she smiled as she walked back behind the counter as we headed for the door.
“We did,” Kyle said with a wink at the cute waitress.
