Terra Nova - Part 2: The Attack

(Part 1 from 1. Fiction.)

** World population: 2,233,776,987.

110,051,113 casualties in 1 week. I read as I go over the latest numbers from around the world. We are able to communicate through short wave radios, and we have gotten news that the british, French, And german armies have pushed the aliens back to the Czech republic as the Russians move in from the east. Some would say that they use human tactics in battle strategies, which means we need to use tactics never seen before.

How? I dont know. I heard a faint knock on my door and I look to see Gaines standing in the doorway. "sir." I said casually. "Bau-Jack" he corrected. "what I said, about you not being experienced enough, I didn't know how resourceful you were so... I'm sorry ok?" he said. "dont worry about it Captain Gaines." I said scanning the short wave frequencies. I heard him walk away. I soon picked up frequencies from as far west as Denver and as far east as France.

However, the only cities That are still fighting in the united states are: Miami, New York City, Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Tampa and Dallas. Many cities have fallen, like: Chicago in 2013, San Francisco in 2014, Seattle, Detroit, and New Orleans in 2015, Atlanta, and Kansas City in 2016, St. Louis, Sacramento, and Las Vegas in 2019, Tallahassee, San Diego, and Salt Lake City last year. There is nothing left of any of those cities. The only city we haven heard anything of is-

"Breaker. This is Eagle 1. Scanning and broadcasting on all frequencies. Please respond."

"Eagle one, 4th Florida responding. Where you holed Up?" I said into the microphone. "D.C." he responded. "well it's good to hear that washington didn't keel over right away." I said. "it's good to hear we're not alone in this fight." he replied. "you guys heading down our way? It's a clean shot all the way to Georgia." "negative. We are heading to Maryland to meet up with The 5th New York, and the 6th Maryland."

he answered. "well good luck eagle one. Bauer out." I said letting go of the receiver. "Gaines!" I holler. He comes running in. "I made contact with the resistance in DC. their might still be a government." I said. "well... That's good news!" he said turning back around. I saw him hobble away and I turn back to the radio. I hear a knock soon after. I look back and I see Leon.

A cute Latino boy who grew up here in Miami. "uhh... Sir?" he said cautiously. "Leon, come on in." I said gesturing to the empty chair. "ummm...." he said sitting down. "jack, I know our in charge of keeping the Civilians safe so... I kinda need your help." he said. "sure Leon, what is it?" I said still focusing on the radio. "well... There's this person. Who I like a real lot, and I'm afraid to tell them because I want them to like me." he said. "I think you should just do what comes naturally and don't be ashamed.

The world ended, I'm pretty sure no one will give a shit." I said turning the dial. "ok. Jack, I like you." he said. I took my hand off of the radio and looked at his cute, boyish face. His big brown eyes, which were completely drained from all hope once, finally came back to life. He scooted over a little and leaned in for a soft kiss. We started to pick up the pace when-

BOOM!

It sounded like it came from outside. "all civilians." I said walking to the emergency trucks. "everyone! Into the trucks now!" I holler "I need drivers! Get your asses in the cab let's move! Gaines! Gaines! We gotta move cap!" I holler towards him. He climbed aboard the front truck, everything is packed up already because we are a mobile army. We grabbed our food, weapons, ammo, the radio, our charts, fuel, everything.

The front truck plowed through the gate, taking off some of it's fender with it. The doors flew open, tires are skidding as they made the sharp left turn out the driveway, we also had two armored busses that helped with the passenger transport a little, but they weren't very maneuverable. We soon got onto alligator alley and punched it. We were pushed out. The city is lost. I rode in the second supply truck with Leon driving and I felt his soft hand on mine. I smiled a bit and picked up the CB radio receiver. "Gaines. This is Bauer, where are we headed? Come back."

"Tampa. Were gonna meet up with the 13th and head to Georgia." he answered. I put the receiver down on the dashboard and looked out the window. The snow tires on the big truck made some kind of sound, it's hard to explain. It's almost like driving on a drawbridge. I continued to scan the sky, looking for any of their aircraft. But lucky for us, we have mats over the hood to keep the heat from showing up on their doohickies because they can sense heat from the engine. We continued on the road to Tampa well into the wee hours of the morning....
