I stayed with dad for a long time. I don’t know how long exactly. Years, I
would imagine. Sometimes I wondered if my real parents were still looking for
me, or if they had given up. I got my answer one night during the winter when I
was 18.
There was a loud banging at the door. I was in my room in the basement, so I
didn’t know what was going on. Dad’s loud feet ran through the house. Finally
heard the door break from the hinges. Feet pounded the ground above my head and
muffled voices yelled. I had an idea what might be happening but I had grown so

The door to my room busted open. Man after man after man came down the stairs
until five or six were around my bed.
“Is that him?” one yelled.
“Are you Andy?” another asked.
The name sounded familiar but I hadn’t heard it in so long.

The air was cold and the sun hurt my eyes but my mother’s arms wrapped around
me tightly.
“Thank God you’re okay.” She said over and over again.
My dad, my REAL dad wrapped his arms around both of us. “The man that took you
is going to jail for a very long time son.”
“Did he hurt you?”
I didn’t know how to answer the question.
“Don’t bother him with questions now Lucy. Let’s get him home.”
Your house was exactly how I remembered it. Big with wide open spaces. I
walked into the living room and noticed a boy, maybe my age, sitting on the
couch.
“Joey.” Mom said softly. “Your brother is home.”
He turned around and looked shocked. He stood up quickly and faced me. “It’s
really him?”
Mom nodded and squeezed my shoulders. “Andy, this is your brother Joey.”
He looked like me. Same long blonde hair and blue eyes, but he was shorter.
“Hi.” I said quietly.
We stood there awkwardly until finally mom nudged me to go sit down.
“So…” Joey said sitting down next to me. “What’s up?”
I shrugged.
“Do you even remember me?” He asked.
I nodded. “Do you remember me?”
He shook his head. “No. I was only four when…you know.”
I nodded understandingly.

That night I laid in my bed staring at the ceiling. Everything seemed so
familiar but so different at the same time. The house itself was the same but
the people in it I barely knew.
My door creaked and I jumped up. Joey was squeezing into my room. “Hey.” He said
quietly.
I watched him as he walked over and sat on my bed.
“What is it?” I asked.
“I just wanted to talk to you.”
“About what?”
“Well, today was really awkward.”
I nodded.
“I just wanted to say that I’m glad your back.”
“Thanks.” I replied.
“Well um…I’ll see you tomorrow I guess.” He stood up.
“Wait.” I said quietly.
He turned to me.
“Should we…hug?”
He smiled and scratched the back of his neck. “Yeah, I guess so.”
He leaned in a wrapped his arms around my shoulders. He felt strong and warm.
“Uhm…Joey?” I asked as we pulled away.
“Yeah?”
“Do you think you could sleep in here tonight? I’m scared.” It wasn’t a lie, but
I also the feel of him near me.
“Sure.”
note: hey, i know this one is short but there are so many places this story
could go and i cant decide! i want some suggestions from my readers on what they
