The Truth About Love Songs: Chapter 5

(Part 1 from 4. Fiction.)

It didn’t even seem like it was nine months since Tyler had gotten his first and only, commercial. He thought it was the beginning of something big but instead it was the beginning of the never ending ‘I told you so’ from his mother, and stack of bills which needed paying. The only thing that seemed to be working out was his relationship with Lucas.

A month had gone by and Tyler waited patiently for another audition, but nothing came along. He had called his agent, who had informed him that things were slow but he shouldn’t worry. So he didn’t, until his mother had told him that he since he wasn’t going to go back to collage he needed to get a job
“I’ve got a job” Tyler stated firmly
“Being an out of work actor is not a job. Now you are going to find something and then you are going to start paying your own way in this house”
“Fine” He yelled “I won’t be here that much longer anyway. Lucas and I are going to find a place together”

Melissa laughed in her son face and said “You really have lost it. And how do you expect to afford this home of yours?”
“Things are a little slow at the moment but they’re going to pick up. When I start getting a steady income then we’re going to find somewhere cheap and cheerful to live. I don’t understand why you can’t support me on this, why do you keep stepping on my dreams?” Tired of fighting with his mother Tyler sunk into his chair and closed his eyes. Melissa sighed and sat beside him.
“Tyler, you are the smartest person I know. You could do anything and be anyone. When I look at you I see such greatness, yet you’re throwing your life away on a dream. I know you love acting but I can’t understand why you just can’t wait until you finish collage. That all I’m asking. Just so you have something to fall back on.”

Tyler opened his eyes and looked at his mother lovingly. “I hear what you’re saying but this is my life and I need to live it the way I want to. I know this is going to work out for me, I know I can do this. I just need you to have a little faith in me”
“It’s not you that I don’t have faith in Tyler. I’m sure every other wannabe actor out there is saying the same thing to their mother.” Melissa said rising out of her seat.
“If you won’t listen to reason then fine. If you want to live out your dreams then go ahead but you better start paying your way in this house and that means I want rent money from you plus half of the bills” She walk over to where her coat was hanging up and put it on.

“Mum” Tyler said standing up “You know I haven’t got that kind of money yet. I’ve just finish telling you that me and Luc are going to be looking for somewhere. You know I need to save whatever I earn”
“Tough” She smiled “You want to live like a man, you can pay your own way like one” And with that she left.
Two months after that conversation Tyler found himself working at a local coffee shop, and hating every second of it. He hated that fact that his mother was being proven right. And seven months down the road he was still there and still without any work for his agent.

It was only Lucas that had kept him from loosing his mind. As he cleaned the last empty table at the Coffee House he couldn’t help but let his mind drift away to his lover. He wondered what he was doing now and if he was on his mind at all. He hadn’t see Lucas in two day and it was driving him crazy.
Lucas had been dragged away by his family on a camping trip. Tyler was meant to go with them but he couldn’t get the time off work. That piece of news did not go down well with Lucas.
“I can’t go without you, I’ll kill myself” He complained.
“You’re beginning to sound like your mother” Tyler laughed.
“Very funny” Lucas said poking Tyler in the ribs.

They were lying in Lucas’ bed after a particularly hot session of sex. “That’s why you were so fucking good last night, because you knew you weren’t coming”
“I’m always good” Tyler laughed. He gave Lucas a kiss on the cheek and got out of bed.
“You know what I mean, smart arse. You know mum and dad and going to drive me crazy. Matthew is becoming a pain in the arse, the twins already work my last nerve, Charlie’s is going though some ‘I hate the world’ phase and Sam is going to be sticking to me like glue. Come on baby, don’t let me down.” Lucas pleaded, his green eye twinkling in the morning light.
“You know I want to Luc but I can’t, they’re short staffed as it is. You be fine.” Tyler kissed him once more on the forehead and left for the bathroom.
So off they went, for a fun filled week of camping. Lucas could barely stand to let go of Tyler. He held him until the very last moment.

Tyler did everything he could not to cry. He never wanted to be without him, not for a week or a day or even a second. He wanted to kick himself for not having things sorted already in regards to getting a place. He couldn’t stand it. He had convinced Lucas not to quit collage as well. Lucas wanted to so they could both start saving up but Tyler didn’t want that. He also knew that Lucas’ mother would kill him for ruining her son life.
Yes, a lot had happened in both families, in the last nine months but not all good things. Apart from Tyler not getting anymore work, his relationship with his mother has changed, and not for the better. She has refused to help him out financially in anyway. So all the food he eats he has to buy. Any detergent, any shower gels, any toilet paper, all has to come from him and that doesn’t include the bills. She refuses to help him out at all. Her reasoning was that she was preparing him for when he got his own place.
“But how am I suppose to afford my own place if I have to keep paying all these bills” He argued back.
“That’s life” she would smile and walk away.

Lucas’ home life wasn’t fairing any better. He was eager to move out of his house and in with Tyler but they had no money and no where to go. The situation between his mother and bill was reaching boiling point. Four months after announcing that he was going to marry her, he informed the family that she was sixteen weeks pregnant. That’s when his mother decided that she loved Candy and insisted that they get married as soon as possible. So instead of fighting over Candy they’re fighting over wedding arrangements.

His sisters Millie and Mya had both gotten boyfriends, who everyone hated. Millis boyfriend is three years older than her and has more holes in him than a sieve. Mya on the other hand, decided to go for someone a little more clean cut, only he was forty five, had two children older than Mya and three grandchildren. At that point Lilly stopped talking to Mya and for a few days there was silence in the house. Mya’s relationship lasted about a mouth. When Lilly found out she could help but gloat. That lasted about five minutes, till she saw how unhappy her daughter was. After that she was nothing but sweetness and light.

Sam had had a birthday and had turned eight. He and Lucas wasn’t spending that much time together, which he hated, so at every opportunity he could he would be by Lucas’ side, which Lucas was not best pleased about. Lucas loved his brother but found it hard when Sam was constantly talking about rubbish. He found it even harder when he and Tyler started getting a little hot and heavy with each other and suddenly they would hear bagging at the door. Lucas found it hard to say no to his brother but was prepared to when it came to having sex with Tyler. Tyler on the other could never say no to Sam and would stop instantly. Lucas hated it and they would argue about it fiercely. Tyler loved all of Lucas’ family but had grown very close to Sam.

A month before the family trip Lucas and Tyler planned a quite night to themselves. Lucas had given strict instructions that no one was to bother them. And to make sure things would go smoothly, he paid Millie and Mya to go out. His older sister Sarah, who had managed to find a place of her own, took baby Lisa for the night. Charlie had taken Matthew to see a movie so the only people left in the house were Bill, who was locked in his room with Candy, his mum and dad and Sam. Lucas had begged his parents to keep Sam occupied, which they said yes to. But two hours after Tyler arrival, Sam came knocking on Lucas’ door, pleading to be let in.
