Fire in the Firehouse 10

(Part 4 from 4. Fiction.)

Mitch meanwhile was resting nice in his bed. He was trying to think back to before the fire. He was remembering his conversation with Trish before the call came. He was speaking to himself in his mind: I remember feeling Trish's feelings. Like I could literally sense her pain. He paused. I wonder what that...Oh, my God. Empathy. I'm an Empath and I get premonitions. Well, plus side, they're milder powers and aren't detectable. But being an Empath, from what Great Grandma Penny used to say can be very draining. You can tend to almost go crazy until you learn how to control it.

Mitch drifted deeper into thought. Using the time to focus on his health, his gifts and Colby. The latter became more obvious. As he dwelled on his lover, he began seeing inside the other's heart. He felt no love for Drake inside Colby, a good sign. But he did sense conflict. He was too new to his powers to realize much. He sensed Colby had recently been through something. He got faint vibes there'd been a fight and it was close to his heart. He knew it wasn't related to him all that much. He got a small semblance it was connected to his family, no real cause to worry. No need to be jealous.

Mitch attempted delving deeper, but it wouldn't come. The harder he tried, the more he connected to all others around him. Some felt elation, sorrow, fear, joy, even horny. Which the latter was easy to conceive due to the fact there wasn't much in the way to find satisfaction. Thing was, the man he'd tapped into, by doing so, it excited him, too. By this point he had some vision. He could see up close, in the distance shadows and outlines.

Mitch finally reached his limit. Too much too soon wore him out. He drifted off, all sexually wound up, and smiled as the milky light blanketed him and his room. The cool hospital air swam all around him and it helped comfort him to sleep. He drew himself to thoughts of his lover. That warmed his heart and made him ache for him to be there. But, using his gifts he knew why and understood a bit better.

As Mitch drifted to sleep, his mind became locked with the one man he loved most. He saw, via his abilities the incidents his lover had recently gone through. He knew Colby was in a mixed state of emotions. There was little he could do but drift into a deep sleep.

Marie had made her way home and immediately gotten herself inside and out of the blaring heat. She threw a thin, cool robe on and had removed her clothes. Her body felt sticky and gross from the air and having had the top down. She grabbed her cordless phone, an address book and made her way outside to the pool. She sat in the area in the shade as the cool water soothed her skin.

She was making calls and sternly threw it out to all the help she wanted to not be disturbed in any fashion. The calls she was about to make were very private and she needed no idle, casual ears around.

Soon Marie was talking to a familiar person to her. "Uh huh, yes. That's right. Its a navy blue, 2005 Chevy truck. Right. Exactly. That's exactly what I want. Make it look like an accident and make sure Colby and Mitch are in the truck. Best chance would be Friday..." Marie was making her plans to seek her revenge on Colby once and for all. "There may be at least one other with them that night. It'll be Drake. Tough shit for him being there. Was never fond of that little bastard either." Marie was truly evil and diabolical. Her heart was more black and evil than anyone could imagine.

The day had gone by fast and when Colby woke he headed to the hospital that evening. He had stayed home at night since the first day. He'd visit Mitch when he could. He still had his days off, but this was now his day to return to work. He'd be working the first four days Drake was there, there was no way out of it, but he'd been granted some personal time off and it was even less an issue because he'd be the one caring for Mitch. He was going to talk to Drake about being there with Mitch while he worked. He knew his friend wouldn't mind. Added to that fact Mitch's sight was close to 100% and he'd be free to go home and be restricted to bed rest.

The next day Colby got up, got dressed and was about to head to the hospital. He got a call from Mitch's doctor. He was free to come home. The young, handsome, lighter haired man was quick to get there to pick him up. He was so lonesome without his lover.

They got back home about an hour later. Colby had just gotten Mitch into bed, TV on when the doorbell rang. He scooted out to get the door. He looked out the peephole. Saw nothing. He was kind of hesitant. This was odd. He walked away, thinking it may've been a joke. As he was a few feet from the door, the bell rang again. Several times rapidly. This worried him and before he could answer the door, there was some furious banging on the door and a deep voice telling him to open the door.

His heart raced and he was fearful Mitch would hear and get suspicious. Though he somewhat filled Mitch in on what happened between he and Marie, Mitch still didn't know all the full details. He wasn't sure what it could be. He was starting to get a little scared. Who knew what Marie would do now? Before he reached the door, the ringing and banging became more steady and loud.

Colby had some martial arts training and knew he could hold his own if need be, but not against a weapon. He hesitated, turned the knob as he got to the door, opened the door in a fast swinging fashion and his mouth dropped, heart raced furiously as he stood there taking in what he saw. The blood drained from his face, his heart pounced in his chest, his adrenaline raced at an intensifying speed. He couldn't believe it had come so fast, he didn't have a chance to prepare. There was yelling, banging, and some screaming.

Mitch heard the confusion, the yelling, the raging sounds and came stumbling out to see what the fuss was all about. He stood back as his eyes took in what the noise was all about. As he saw it, a feeling flowed through him. He couldn't believe his luck how things turned out. How could this have happened? But sure enough, there was Colby in the middle of it all...

***To be continued, again*** Little note men: Sorry part 10 took so long. Just as I began telling it, met an amazing man online.
