Fire in the Firehouse 11

(Part 2 from 3. Fiction.)

Colby looked at him. He was definitely not in favor of his lover being out of bed doing so much. The look on his face said so. The darker haired man chose to brush it off. He wanted his guests to see how in love he and his man were and that regardless of injury he was still tough enough to kick ass. There was a tone to Mitch's voice that Colby detected and was unsure of.

Colby brushed it off, maybe he was rushing to conclusions. He swore to himself he'd speak to Mitch about things later. Maybe he was just being friendly and he was reading it wrong. They'd never entertained guests as lovers. He hoped Mitch was just being friendly and not out to mark his territory so to say. He gave it more thought and figured he'd just see how Mitch was from here on out.

Seemingly out of nowhere the phone rang, Colby pardoned himself. "Hello? Oh, hey Joe. How are ya? Yeah, yeah. Uh huh. All right. Yes. Are you sure? Well, great. And I'm sure I speak for us both when I say thank you. Will do. See you late next week. I'll keep you posted. Ok, talk to ya later. Buh bye." Colby walked over to Mitch. "That was Joe. He's given me time off to be with you while you heal. He wouldn't take no for an answer. He feels you need me around for a few days until you're back to normal. And has reshifted the schedule accordingly." Mitch just smiled a satisfied and contented smile. He was happy to have Colby around the house while he healed and he could keep his eyes on the other three.

Mitch had shown their guests to the couch while they waited for Colby to join them. They sat in the love seat across from Mitch. Colby walked up, sat next to Mitch and began the conversation. To himself he felt bad Cole was out of the loop some. But he felt that was the best way to learn was to listen. Colby started off on the subject of Marie right away. "Oh, you can't believe this one man." Drake stared on in deep interest. The build up sounded juicy.

"I got an email the other day. Remember my cousin Hunter?" Drake thought for a moment and then he smiled when it occurred to him who his friend was describing. Seeing the look on his friend's face, the lighter haired host continued. "Well, it seems that bitch Marie has been living a lie all these years. She's not even my fuckin Mom. Mine died when I was born and supposedly it became a big old family secret."

Drake's mouth dropped. "You're shitting me. Well, that's a relief. Never cared for that fuckin cunt-faced-whore. I only respected the skank out of respect for you and your Dad. She always gave me an uneasy feeling. Good. I hate her now, too." All four men laughed.

Colby continued. "Here's the kicker: we're all to go out to dinner Saturday. Wait'll she sees you're gay, too. That's another thing, she learned my secret." As soon as the words left his mouth, Colby realized he'd yet to Mitch about this. He turned to him, "I was going to tell you babe. She saw me crying on the news in Dad's arms," mid sentence he turned to his guests, mostly Drake, "Dad's what we call our captain." Then went on telling the story. "Out of longing to see you, my Dad's taking time to come home and see you, so he'll be there, too. Funny thing, I've not had a chance to break it to him about Mitch and I. Honestly, if she tells him first, whatever. I know my Dad and I know he loves me. And when it comes out I know about Marie, well who knows?" Colby continued telling his story.

Across the Sierras, inside her fancy home, Marie had made her calls by this point. She'd then locked herself in her room, and secluded herself in her tub. She had a cigarette in her right hand, a glass of brandy in the other. She clicked the TV on with her big toe. She had her cell phone and cordless phone by her.

After a short time the cell phone rang. "Yes? What is it?" The tone in her voice was as nasty as always. She was always short with people. It was just her nasty, manipulative, controlling nature. "You what?! I never said fuck about going by where my bastard stepson lives. Don't you realize that he's a fireman and they have ties with cops? I want you to stay the fuck away from there! I don't need anyone tracing this shit back to me. You're hired to do a job, now do it right! No one said shit about casing the place or him or any one of his faggot friends." Marie felt her cool skin grow flushed. Anger seared through her. If there was one thing she hated most, it was incompetence. She was a stickler for details and perfection.

Soon she lost herself in her bath as she tried to calm down, flipping through the TV with the remote. She was in an ornery, bitchy mood, which wasn't saying much. Some time passed and soon her cordless phone rang. It was Nick. The volume on the phone was loud. "Hi, baby. Its me. I'm about to catch my flight and I'll see you later tonight. I have something special for you." Nick always bough his wife things. He tried so hard to have with Marie what he had with Colby's Mom. It wasn't to be.

Marie faked sincerity. "Great darling. I'm soaking in the tub. Was a rough day. I saw Colby, things were a little off between us. But I think it has to do with the heat. You know how he gets with the heat." She was trying to plant things in her husband's mind and get him worked up. She did so because wanted to get him all worked up and be ready to lay into Colby for disrespecting her. She knew Colby still feared being spoken to by his Dad in a disciplinary way. She enjoyed seeing the young man cower like a child when his Dad had things to say. Little did Marie realize it, Colby had grown as a man. Having gone through the ordeal at the fire station back in January and the situation a few days ago, coupled with the run in with her and other things in the last several months, Colby was a new man. He'd grown as a person and wasn't about to be a doormat to anyone anymore.

Marie went back to her soaking. "Fuck them both to hell. I can't wait to break ties with these two for good and be rid of them. They do nothing but annoy the shit outta me. Too bad the moronic sonofabitch has no clue at all I've been tapping the bank accounts practically since the day we married. He thinks its all gone to my habits. Well, funny thing is, I never told him about my own monies. He never knew that my first two husbands ended up giving me half their fortunes when we divorced." There was so much more complexities to Marie.
She'd adapted very well to living such a facade and a double life.

The conversation in the apartment went on for hours. Finally Mitch excused himself and went to lie down. The day had been a bit much on him. In a way, talking briefly when the conversation allowed it Mitch got a better feeling about their two guests. He listened from his room while on his bed. He tried tuning things out. He felt a bit bad for Cole, how bored he must have been. Mitch clicked on the TV. "Beats the hell outta listening to the hen house out there." He surfed the channels, his mind drifted away from him as the time passed. He never really found anything to watch. He'd watch bits and pieces of things. At some point, as the day wore into evening then into night, he drifted off here and there. At one point he heard Colby show Cole the room he and Drake would share. The room they kept for appearance sake would be theirs. Mitch even heard Cole hit the shower. He wasn't too keen on the two friends being alone, but with both their lovers in the same place, he figured it was safer than he'd thought before learning of Cole.

Some time passed. Mitch had left the door cracked for ventilation. He was drifting in and out all evening. He turned over to get more comfy. As he did so, he saw the light from the hallway had become blocked somewhat. He strained to focus. In part because of the recent trauma, in part out of just waking up. The more he stared, the more he swore he saw something standing at the door.

In the living room Colby and Drake had pulled out some old videos of them from over the years. They were laughing at old times and how foolish they were. They saw old family vacations, holidays, parties and the like. Colby stared hard at Marie trying to make sense of the woman in retrospect. He wondered how she could seem so convincing in front of others, behind closed doors it was something else all together. Drake was getting lost in times gone by and somewhat sensed his buddy was deep in thought. He knew not to say anything and just let him work through his issues. He knew exactly what was on the other's mind and rationalized to himself he'd more than likely feel the same in the same position.

Back down the hallway Mitch began watching more closely. Mystery of what was going on filled the air, as though it had become a fog. It pained him some to strain so hard to see. As he did, he took notice his cock had flopped out the pee hole of his boxers. He hated boxers as a rule, but that was under his clothing. To sleep in them was great freedom. Due to the light, he could see out pretty clearly, but it was Cole that was having the harder time seeing in.

Mitch had to really focus but he thought he caught a glimpse of Cole's bath towel slide open. The more he looked, the more he saw Cole had whipped his cock out and had been stroking the meaty flesh. Mitch's heart raced. In part of knowing this could lead to problems, but there was a small part of him aroused by this. But he came back to his senses. His mind raced how to get out of this. He wanted to call out for Colby and scare the shit out of Cole. That would remain a viable option. What weighed most on Mitch's mind was if Cole might take it further. He had to know. Maybe this is what he sensed in him.

Suddenly the noise in the living room died down, Cole must've heard it too. He suddenly repositioned the towel and moved away from the door. A few quick beats later and Colby was gently entering his and his lover's room. He sat down on the bed. "Stud? You awake?" He paused allowing Mitch to respond. Mitch felt it better to act like he'd been asleep. As it was, his cock had swollen some in response to seeing Cole's actions. He figured if Colby caught a glimpse of it in the strained light he'd brush it off to a sleep erection. That's why he tucked his somewhat swollen tool back in, just to be certain.

Mitch stirred a bit and made a slight inaudible sound. Colby took that as key to address the other. "Baby, Drake and I wanted to run and get some pizza at Antonio's. Will you be all right alone for a while?" Mitch wasn't sure if that meant Cole was going or not. He wasn't sure what to say or do. He went with his gut and just groaned a response that sounded like a yes.

Colby confirmed, "Well, I think Cole will stay here. I know you don't know him all that well, besides, you should be fine. You're only under the influence of some meds with Codeine." Colby had no way of knowing Mitch had opted not to take his next dose and the effects of the last round were almost worn off. The darker haired man was going to use this time to learn more about Cole and why he got such a weird feeling when he used his powers on him.

Colby, mostly satisfied left the room. Mitch listened. "Ok. Its settled. Mitch seems to be good enough." Drake had run the idea by Cole of his staying put. He was fine with it. He'd mentioned something about it giving him a chance to settle in. That said, the two longtime friends were off. Mitch heard the door close and began silently counting how long before Cole returned. He'd managed to use his empathy and knew Cole was coming, it was on his mind.
