My German Lover : Part 12

(Part 3 from 3. Fiction.)

Nevertheless, they all had fun for the rest of their stay at the Château and, eventually, they returned to Paris, where real life was waiting for them...

A few days later, Paul was in the drawing-room, reading his German textbook, when Will came in from the study, where he had been on the phone, talking to his family back in Berlin...

Paul looked up at Will's worried face...

"What's wrong?", he asked Will...

"...Oh... not much... It's just that my dad told me there was a big air battle over the Channel the other day... and it seems the Luftwaffe shot down many british planes... I wonder where all this is going to lead us..."

"Don't worry Will... I'm sure it means nothing...", Paul answered, smiling...

"Maybe...", Will answered.

Later, on July 18th, Paul was listening to Radio Berlin when he heard Hitler, giving a speech to the Reightag members... Of course, Paul didn't understand every thing Hitler was saying, but he understood enough to know that Hitler was offering to make peace with England... Paul took notes, since he wanted Will to translate a few words to him...

When Will arrived later, Paul told him about Hitler's speech and showed him the notes he had taken...

Will read the notes, then smiled...

"Why are you smiling like that?", Paul asked, a bit offended... "I know... I made some mistakes... but I'm doing my best..."

"Quite the contrary Paul... I'm smiling because I can't believe how fast you're learning German... Do you have a trick or something?"

"...Aaaaaa, well... I study hard you know...", Paul answered, grinning but avoiding contact with Will's eyes... since he didn't want to tell his secret about his private lessons...

"I know you, Paul de Brion... Are you hiding something from me?", Will asked, grinning...

"Okay, okay... I have hired a private teacher..."

"Ha!", Will exclaimed, laughing... "Now the cat is out in the open... That explains why you've been progessing so fast..."

"... Not only that... but each day, I listen to Radio Berlin... and when Lutz, Franz and you speak in German, I try to follow you the best I can... But I've got to admit, and I hate to say that... but sometimes, I have problems to understand Franz's accent...

Will started to laugh again and, going back to Paul's notes, he said:

"Who said that?"

"Hitler", Paul answered.

Will grinned, and said:

"Well... the Führer says that, in all good faith, he appeals to England's good sense and wisdom... He says his actual position allows him to make such an appeal since he doesn't speak as a man who has sustained defeat, thus begging for mercy... but rather as the victor, talking in the name of good sense..."

"Oh... and what's the exact meaning of that last sentence... there?"

"The Führer says he doesn't see why this war should go on anymore..."

"That's what I thought...", Paul answered... "You see Will... I'm sure the war will be over soon..."

Will looked directly into Paul's green eyes and started to laugh...

"...But my poor Paul! Do you think for one second Churchill will accept to make peace with the Reich as things now stand? England would be force to accept anything the Führer wants... And even if Churchill accepts and makes peace with the Reich... he knows this damn war would start all over again in two, maybe three years... He knows Hitler can't be trusted..."

"Well... I hope you're wrong Will... and I hope we can live in peace soon".

"Oh... I would love that too, Paul... But I'm not much of a dreamer, after all I've seen..."

A few days later, the matter was settled when Churchill gave his answerer to Hitler, saying England would have no peace talks with the Reich before the Wehrmacht had totally evacuated Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Norway and, most of all... France!

Again, Paul had to admit Will had been right all along...

At least, if he had been wrong about peace, Paul was glad he had made the right decisions concerning the gas tanks and the food coming every week from Bagatelle... At least, they didn't have to put with the severe rationing imposed by the Germans and they were not limited to the ration-books that were distributed by the occupier...

And Paul smiled about the surprise he would soon have for his lover as well as for Lutz and Franz: He had given a contract to a construction firm in Paris to built a "Pavillon" near the lake at Bagatelle... It would be a rather small Pavillon... two bedrooms... a kitchen and a large living-room (nothing was simple with Paul...) and a graceful balcony would surrond the Pavillon on three of its four sides, covered by a roof supported by thin white columns...

But he had been told by the construction firm they really had no choice but to built a small road to the lake, so all the building materials could be brought to the construction site by small trucks. It was impossible to use horses to do that!

Paul had no choice but to agree, but he made sure the road would be designed so it would be totally hidden from view, very well camouflaged under the big trees: To find it, one would have to know it was there...

Paul also had to make another concession: A cable had to be buried, leading from the Château to the Pavillon, to bring some electricity in, just enough to power a small refrigerator and an electric stove... that's all! No lights... no radio and, of course, no phone... although a phone line had also been burried, but not connected...

Knowing the construction of the Pavillon would rise some interests among some village people, Paul took the opportunity to have a large greenhouse built near the Château... Due to the German occupation, some exotic fruits were no longer available on the market, and coffee would soon disappear from the shelfs... All of those could soon be grown on the estate, thanks to the new greenhouse, and so Paul would not have to drink chicory instead of coffee, and be force to only eat apples all year long...

Furthermore, the construction of the Pavillon would go unnoticed since everybody would be talking about the new greenhouse...

And it worked!

Only the estate manager knew about the Pavillon, as the staff had paid no attention to the fact that a few trucks had been driving into the woods...

In August, when Paul visited the site, he was most satisfied by the results. The construction of the Pavillon would be over in a few days, and everything around it would be restored to it's previous condition...

Paul looked at the Pavillon and was happy to see it was well hidden under the large pine-trees surronding it... The only problem was that the Pavillon had been painted in white all over... Before leaving Bagatelle, Paul ordered the contractor to have it re-painted in green... so it would disappear into the surronding wilderness...

Before leaving the construction site, as the construction was over, the contractor moved in all the furniture Paul had chosen, and made sure the refrigerator was working...

Paul had not said a word to Will about the construction of the Pavillon, so when Will said he would soon have a three day leave, right after the weekend of August, 24 and 25, Paul suggested they go to Bagatelle, and have some fun over there... just the two of them...

Will gladly accepted, and Paul gave to his Chef, monsieur Michel, special orders so their favourite food could be prepared and sent in advance to Bagatelle, along with a few bottles of very good wine...

Friday, August 23, was a very hot summer day in Paris, and when Will got back from work, Paul was impatiently waiting for him...

"We're leaving tonight for Bagatelle...", Paul told him, with a big smile on his face...

"What? ... Right now?"

"I've pack everything... not that we'll need much...", Paul answered, giggling...

"You must be crazy... We can't leave tonight..."

"Give me one good reason why we shouldn't leave tonight... one reason...", Paul answered, grinning...

"(...)"

"So... as I said, we're leaving tonight", Paul said, laughing...

They had a quick lunch before leaving and soon after, they were driving out of Paris...

The night was warm and beatiful... and they were almost all alone on the road...

"Do you still believe I was crazy when I ordered monsieur Pierre to fill up the big gas tanks? Thanks to all the gas we now have, we can drive to Bagatelle as often as we like, while most people have to stay in Paris... unless they go to a place where a train goes...", Paul asked Will, grinning...

"...No... You were right all along...", Will answered, laughing...

"Yeah!... But you were right about Hitler's peace initiative... as you were right about so many other things you've said... Sometimes, I wonder if you are not reading the future..."

"Oh no... If you know the facts, it's easy sometimes to guess what's going to happen...", Will answered, laughing...

"Maybe... but you're good at it... I guess we complete each other, don't we? And now, can you believe we have five days ahead of us... five whole days to enjoy each other... all alone... you and me..."

"Well... don't forget about the staff at Bagatelle...", Will replied...

Paul smiled to himself but didn't answer...

Later, they arrived at Bagatelle and Will stept down of the car to open the gates to the estate... Paul drove the car pass the gates, and Will locked them back, then walked back to the car.

A few minutes later, Paul parked the car near the new greenhouse, and they saw the manager walking to them with two horses in tow...

Will looked at the new greenhouse, stunned... but didn't have time to say anything since the manager started to say:

"Bon soir monsieur Paul... and good night to you too, monsieur Guillaume... Everything is ready, just as you asked me...", the manager said to Paul, smiling...

"Fine... and thanks... I appreciate...", Paul answered.

Looking at Will, Paul asked him:

"Do you know how to ride a horse?"

"Sure... I've learned..."

Will was going to say he had learned to ride horses in the Wehrmacht... but he didn't say it, because the mamager was still there with them...

"Fine!", Paul answered, smiling... "Then, follow me..."

"Hey... What about our luggage? Where are we going?" Will asked...

"We won't need them..." Paul answered, smiling to Will... "Trust me..."

So Will followed Paul, riding on his horse, and soon, they entered the deep woods... Will could see there was a small road there... In fact, it was more like a trail, he thought... and it wasn't easy to figure out where it was leading to...

As they rode down the trail, from times to times, Will could see the full moon shining through the trees... It was so beatiful...

Everything was so calm and quiet... The only sound they could hear was the sounds made by the horses, going down the trail...

After quite a while, Will started to see the lake through the trees...

"Ah... that's where we're going, isn't it?" he asked Paul, smiling...

"Sort of...", Paul answered... "Sort of..."

Will had not seen the Pavillon yet, since it was so well camouflaged under the big pine-trees all around it...

"There we are...", Paul said, as he ordered his horse to stop...

Will looked and then he saw the Pavillon...

"AH! LA VACHE! ("HOLY COW!")... he exclaimed...

Paul started laughing so hard, he scared an old owl perched nearby...

"Do you like it?", Paul asked Will... "It's my gift to you..."

"I can't believe it... I just can't...", Will answered, completely stunned...

"Ah! La vache, huh?" Paul replied... still laughing... "Do you know what Will? We'll call the Pavillon... "La Vacherie..." What do you think?"

"Shit... It must have cost a fortune...", Will answered, laughing...

"Not that much... Don't worry... And I know you like being here...", Paul answered, tenderly smiling at Will...

They dismounted from their horses and tied their harness to a nearby tree...

Paul took Will by the hand and they both walked to the Pavillon.

"Wait for me here... and close your eyes!", Paul asked Will...

Will did as asked, as Paul went inside the Pavillon where he lighted a few candles... Then he came out, and walked over to a few torchs, lighting them...

When he was finished, he walked back to Will and said:

"Now... open your eyes!"

Will opened his eyes, and couldn't believe it... He thought he was living in a dream...

"Oh my God Paul... it's so beatiful..."

"You like it?"

Will didn't answer the question and instead, started to kiss Paul with his full mouth...

"... Well... I guess you like it...", Paul later said...

They walked to the balcony and then, Paul said:

"There's only one rule here... No one gets inside if he's dress... We've got to get naked if we want to go inside..."

"How wicked of you...", Will answered, laughing...

"That's the rule!", Paul answered, grinning...

It didn't take long before they were both totally naked and, as Paul was about to enter the Pavillon, Will said:

"Wait... I want to carry you inside..."

So he took Paul into his strong arms, and carried him inside... Kissing him passionately..."

"Ohhhhhh... do I see a dick rising here?", Will asked Paul, looking at his lover...

"The night will be long, I'm telling you...", Paul answered, laughing then giving Will a tender kiss...

"Yeah!", Will simply answered, grinning...
